About this Project
The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) is an award-winning marine conservation programme based at Six Senses Laamu, bringing together marine biologists and leading NGOs to protect the ecosystems of Laamu Atoll. Its work combines scientific research, education, and community engagement to better understand and safeguard coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangroves, and key marine species. Research findings directly inform conservation action, from reef restoration to fisheries management and marine protected areas. Through hands-on education programmes and local partnerships, MUI empowers both visitors and Maldivian communities to become active ocean stewards, creating long-term, measurable impact for marine conservation in the Maldives.
